    What is Roku?

Roku is a globally renowned company or brand that is popular for manufacturing numerous types of top-notch digital media players, each of which facilitates users to stream video content.

Similar to other media streaming tools like Chromecast or Amazon Fire Stick, Roku devices allow users to seamlessly stream their favorite video content. The streaming devices offer individuals access to a wide range of TV as well as video streaming channels and platforms, including the likes of:

    • Netflix
    • Amazon Prime Video
    • Disney+
    • Spotify
    • Now TV
    • YouTube
    • Hulu
    • ESPN+
    • Freevee
    • HBO Max

Roku players offer users the option to access content offered by different channels under a single roof, which makes them very cost-effective. The best part about streaming devices is that they allow users to access different varieties of video content which are spread across both free as well as paid video streaming services and channels under a single place.

Different Types of Roku Streaming Devices:

There are four types of Roku streaming devices available in the market, each of which is further divided into different variants and models. The four types of devices include:

    • Roku players or set-top boxes
    • Roku Streaming sticks
    • Roku TVs
    • Roku Streambar

Each category differs from the others in terms of features, capabilities, and of course, prices.

    How does Roku Work?

Roku devices are categorized as media streaming players, meaning that they facilitate users to stream video content using the Internet in real-time. These devices allow users to access multiple streaming channels and outlets, which include both free and paid channels and video subscription services.

Besides having a Roku streaming device, users need to have a Roku account to stream their favorite content on their preferred vide0-based platform. Once the streaming device is set up and an account has been created, users can enjoy indulging in binge-watching sessions on their favorite video streaming platform by installing their respective channels or apps.

How to Use Roku As a Screen Mirroring Device:

Besides allowing users to watch their preferred content pieces virtually, Roku devices also function as screen mirroring devices.

For example, if an individual uses a Mac and wishes to mirror Mac to Roku, they can easily do so in multiple ways. Here are two efficient ways of getting the job done:

    • Using AirPlay – The AirPlay system of Mac allows users to seamlessly mirror their Mac’s screen to other devices, including Roku. To do so, users simply need to open the Control Center on their Mac, click the option labeled “Screen Mirroring” and select “Roku” from the list of names.
    • Using an HDMI Cable – Mac users can also use an HDMI cable to mirror their Mac’s screen to Roku. To do so, they first need to plug in the HDMI cable into the TV’s HDMI port. Then, they connect the other end of the cable to the Mac. In some cases, an adaptor may be required. Finally, they need to turn their MacBook on normally to get the job done.

    Getting Started with Roku:

As mentioned earlier, interested individuals need two things to get started with streaming video content: a Roku device and an account on its official platform. Here are the steps following which users can set up their Roku device and create an account to start consuming content:

Step 1 – Plug the Roku streaming device into a television and a power source.

Step 2 – Connect the device to the Internet via a WiFi connection.

Step 3 – Turn on the TV and follow the on-screen instructions to create a free account on Roku’s platform

Step 4 – Activate the account by entering the code sent to the registered email address.

Once the setup process is complete, individuals can easily stream and watch the content they wish to by adding free or paid channels to their favorites list. The best part about the setup process is that it is completely free, i.e., users do not need to pay additional charges for creating an account.

    Final Thoughts:

Roku devices are robust media streaming tools that are perfect for individuals who love consuming content on different streaming services. Moreover, Roku devices work exceptionally well, making the users’ investment worth their while.
