    UMIDIGI S2 Pro’s Build Quality

UMIDIGI S2 Pro is no doubt a stunning smartphone with a big bezel-less screen. The all-metal build provide confidence when you hold it for the first time. S2 weighs around 188 gm and is 8.8 mm thick. The extra thickness and weight is due to the fact that it houses a 5100 mAh battery. At the bottom we have a Type C charging port but there is no headphone jack which is shocking considering the thickness of the device.

UMIDIGI claims that S2 is Water and Dust resistant however there is no IP rating certification. Adding to that the liquid damage is also not covered under warranty.

    Display

    Umidigi S2 Pro

Following the new trend, Umidigi S2 Pro sports a 6 inch IPS LCD 18:9 display with a resolution of 2160×1080 (FHD+). For protection, S2 Pro uses Corning Gorilla Glass 4 so you don’t have to worry about scratches anymore. This device has massive 90% Screen to Body ratio which means the bezels are very thin. This provides stunning multimedia experience. The viewing angles are great with decent color reproduction. Under direct sunlight, it is not the best display to work with but if you try to manage, it will get the job done. Playing games and watching movies on this screen feels astonishing.

    Performance and Storage

UMIDIGI S2 Pro is powered by 64 Bit MediaTek Helio P25 Octa-core processor coupled with Mali T880 GPU. It comes in a single configuration of 6 GB RAM and 128 GB ROM. You can use a Micro SD card of up to 256 GB can be used to expand the memory.

    Umidigi S2 Pro

Performance on the S2 Pro is similar to what we get on most of the Chinese smartphones with similar hardware. Browsing web and switching between apps feels pretty smooth. S2 Pro doesn’t break a sweat while performing day-to-day tasks however you can feel slow downs while playing heavy games like Asphalt 8 or Modern Combat 5. Although you can drop the graphic setting to medium or low to enjoy the games smoothly on this device.

    Software

    Umidigi S2 Pro

UMIDIGI S2 Pro runs on the latest UMI OS which is based on Android 7.0 Nougat. There are a couple of bloatware in the OS but you can uninstall them whenever you want. There is no guarantee regarding the software updates.

Android Nougat provides features like Data Saver to save your data plan, reply from notifications, organized toasts, Google Assistant and many more. Nougat will still serve you smoothly for a couple of years.

    Camera

UMIDIGI S2 Pro have SONY Flagship Dual-lens camera on the back. The primary sensor is of 13 Megapixel while the supporting sensor is of 5 Megapixel. It is capable of recording 4K videos however there is no Optical or Electronic image stabilization. Images captured have good level of details with natural color tone. However under low lighting conditions images turns out to be noisy.

On the front we have a 15 Megapixel Sony sensor with Beauty mode. The images quality is good with high detail, in case you turn the artificial beauty mode. Noise creeps in under low lighting situations though. Overall the camera performance is good.

    Battery

    Umidigi S2 Pro

UMIDIGI S2 Pro packs a massive 5100 mAh battery and supports Quick Charge 2.0. Battery life is not an issue with this device. Single Full charge on this battery will easily last for 2 days with moderate to heavy usage. Fast charging support provides 65% charge in 90 minutes and Full charge in 150 minutes. UMIDIGI says you can play games for up to 10 Hours on a single charge which is quite surprising. S2 will take care of your long travelling problem, since you will not require charger that much.

    Other Perks

UMIDIGI S2 Pro is a Dual-SIm Dual-Standby device with LTE support. Connectivity includes WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS. Sensors include Accelerometer, Ambient Light Sensor, E-Compass and Proximity Sensor. Fingerprint scanner is placed below the rear Dual cameras. It is not the fastest and accurate scanner but gets the job done reliably most of the time.

    Umidigi S2 Pro

According to UMIDIGI, “S2 Pro’s new Face Access, scans multiple areas of the face, and unlocks after identifying the biological facial features. It‘s super simple – just pick up the phone to wake the screen, and Face Access will start immediately to unlock it.” However we doubt the level of security and recommend you to stick with the fingerprint scanner for unlocking your device.

UMIDIGI S2 Pro is undoubtedly a good-looking smartphone with decent performance but the price tag of $329 on GearBest is quite high considering the hardware. There are much better alternatives available with similar hardware like Vernee MIX 2 or the Oukitel k5000. But considering the extra juice which S2 offers with its large battery, it will fulfill the power needs of the power users.
