Oukitel MIX 2 Review | Great design with great hardware

Year 2017 witnessed the biggest change in the segment of smartphones. The introduction of bezel-less displays, Bluetooth 5.0, and tons of new features were made. Oukitel MIX 2 is from one of the budget bezel-less phones available. They mainly focus on providing powerful smartphones within affordable price tags. MIX 2 is no exception with its massive display, great build and superior battery. It gives a tough competition to the competitors within similar price segment.

Oukitel MIX 2 shares similar design to that of recently released MI MIX 2. Both have a similar bezel-less display with a camera placed at the chin. Although Oukitel MIX 2 have a bigger form factor as compared to Mi MIX 2. In addition both shares a similar back design but this is where the similarities ends. Oukitel MIX 2 have a glass back with dual camera setup as compared to the ceramic back and single camera arrangement on the Mi MIX 2.

Fingerprint scanner is placed at the back. On the right side we have Volume Rocker and a Power button. On the bottom we have a USB Type C charging port with top headphone jack placement.

The worst part about having a glass backed device is the constant gathering of fingerprint smudges which feels a bit irritating. It’s slippery too so the phrase “Hold with Caution” seems to be perfect. MIX 2’s build will surely turn heads where ever you go. It is 8.8 mm thick and weighs around 244 gm which feels a bit heavy in hands.

Display | Oukitel MIX 2 Review

Display is what makes the MIX 2 astonishing. It sports a massive 6 inch (5.99 inch to be exact) Incell display with a resolution of 1080×2160 and supports up-to 10 touch input. “Touch your border-less world” phrase used by Oukitel seems to fit perfect as the 18:9 ratio display provides an amazing immersive experience. Its FullHD+ resolution provides sharp visuals. Colors are vibrant and the sunlight visibility is surprisingly good. Multimedia consumption is quite fun. MIX 2 surely have one of the best display in its budget segment.

Oukitel MIX 2 have 64 bit MediaTek Helio P25 and ARM Mali-T880 MP2 GPU under the hood and comes in a single configuration of 6 GB RAM and 64 GB storage. Memory expansion can be done using a MicroSD card up-to 512 GB which is the humongous. Most of the device now-a-days lacks expansion slots. Kudos to Oukitel for providing such a high capacity expansion slot.

Performance | Oukitel MIX 2 Review

Performance is impressive. Browsing through web, watching videos, playing intensive games doesn’t bother MIX 2 much. P25 provides enough power to easily handle demanding apps and games. Plenty of RAM makes multi-tasking an icing on the cake. More RAM allows more apps to stay in the memory for better multi-tasking. For a moderate user, MIX 2 will never make you struggle for more.

Oukitel runs on Android N which is not that latest. Android Nougat provides features like Data Saver to save your data plan, reply from notifications, organized toasts, Google Assistant and many more. There is no guarantee for future upgrades. Nougat will still serve you smoothly for a couple of years.

Camera | Oukitel MIX 2 Review

MIX 2 uses a dual camera setup as the primary shooter. One sensor is 21 Megapixel while the other is a 2 Megapixel sensor. This setup is capable of recording 4K videos. Dual Flash is there to help in dark environments. Camera quality is quite good capturing high details and saturated colors. Under low light conditions, noise creeps in the images which depletes the quality to a noticeable extent.

On the front is a 13 Megapixel sensor with flash. Images turns out to be great and flash really does help under low light conditions. There is a Bokeh mode on the front camera which is achieved through software. Bokeh quality is meh which is understandable as it is achieved without a depth sensor.

Battery | Oukitel MIX 2 Review

MIX 2 packs a massive 4080 mAh non-removable battery. Screen-on-time is excellent as Oukitel says you can play games continuously on MIX 2 for 8+ hours. With great battery comes great charging as well. With Quick Charge 2.0, you can charge MIX 2 from 0% to 100% in 90 min which is pretty impressive considering the size of the battery.

Other Perks

Oukitel MIX 2 is a Dual-SIm Dual-Standby device with LTE support. Connectivity includes WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS. Sensors include Ambient Light Sensor, Geomagnetic Sensor, Gravity Sensor, Gyroscope and Proximity Sensor. Fingerprint sensor is at the back of the device which is quite fast and reliable.

MIX 2 is a great deal for $199.
