Almost every flagship device now comes with a Dual Camera setup. Which provides an amazing feature called Portrait mode. What this feature actually does is, make use of the depth sensing sensor and software to blur the background while focusing on a subject. This gives an amazing effect known as bokeh to the images. Just like the images captured from the professional cameras.
However after the release of Pixel 2 XL in the last quarter of 2017. It was proved that Portrait mode doesn’t require Dual Cameras and can be done by the software alone.
While most of these high end flagship devices are out of budget for many. But there is something good waiting on the horizon.
Thanks to Developer Arnova8G2 who modified Charles Chow’s Camera NX app. Which introduced the Pixel 2 XL’s portrait mode on Nexus 6P and 5X. Also on some non-google devices running on Android Oreo like OnePlus 3, OnePlus 3T and Moto G5s. This app might work on some other devices also running on Android Oreo (Further Testing required).
Version 1.3 Changelogs:
- Faster Focus
- Issues with front portrait mode
- No issues with back portrait mode
- Added com.google.android.camera.experimental2017.jar within the apk.
Before installing the apk on your device make sure to check the install from unknown sources option in settings. Also don’t forget to give permission for camera.
Front camera portrait selfie mode crashes the camera app for now on my OnePlus 3 but the fixing update will be released soon.
Note- This app is still in its initial phase and there can be bugs. Currently only few devices running oreo are working with this App. If you don’t want bugs wait for a stable release. To check about the updates visit the third link down below.
