Meizu MX5 is a new device which was launched in July 2015 by Meizu a Chinese company(electronics). MX5 provides us a very high end specifications at a very low price. Yes its completely clear that the device beats up many other flagship devices out there at an affordable price tag. So,
How It Feels?
Its sports 5.5 inches AMOLED display, a 20.7 MP camera and a
fingerprint scanner which we can rarely find in any of the devices at this price tag which is being offered. MX5 is powered by a MediaTek processor. It is beautifully crafted device with full metal uni-body design and the best thing is its only 7.6 mm thin that gives a premium look to this device which is expected exactly from the devices of this generation. Device weighs approx 149 gm only providing a very comfortable feel while holding. The metal body isn’t slippery thus provide better grip while using it. Unlike MX4, MX5 have a physical home button with an integrated finger print scanner which in our opinion is a very great feature. Sometimes home button feel cheap while using the phone but at this price tag this seems acceptable. MX5 is available in 16, 32 and 64 GB variant. There is no SD card slot though. Lets talk about the specifications in detail.
MX5 sports 5.5inches AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080×1980. The screen density is 401 PPI which is cherished by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. At a single glance we can find the display to be bright, sharp leaving an amazing experience while watching videos and playing games. We are not sure if the display is finger print prone or not. Overall the display is not the best in the market but its amazing when its price is being considered.
MX5 is packed with MT6795 also known as the Helio X10 which is an octa core processor clocked at 2.2 GHz. The performance is totally lag free even while playing high end games. The one of the positive point about the MX5 is that it does not heats up even after aggressive multitasking. Opening Closing and Switching apps is totally smooth and lag free. MX5 have 3 gigabytes of RAM contributing in a very responsive android experience in the segment of performance. MT-6795 along with 3 GB of RAM is a figure of beast unleashed under the hood.
MX5 have a 20.7 MP camera with 5248 х 3936 pixels resolution. Sony sensor is used resulting the quality of the image to be very impressive. Color reproduction are very natural of the clicked images. Camera app has all the modes like Macro, Auto, Manual, Panaroma etc. Dual LED flash is present which got the Laser AutoFocus like we saw in LG G3 placed just right below the Dual LED flash. With laser auto-focus, focusing on a particular object is very fast and impressive. However HDR mode is a little bit slow (not that much slow to consider it as a negative point). 4K video recording @30fps and slow motion video recording @100fps is also available. The quality of videos are however not the best in the market but is quite amazing and impressive.
At front we have a 5 MP Camera for better selfies and video calling with beauty mode enabled which let you play with each of your moments. Again the quality is good and videos can also be recorded in [email protected]
with the front camera.
MX5 is running on Android 5.0.1 along with Meizu’s own customized FlyMe OS 4.5 flavoring on the top. FlyMe Os is heavily themed, so you will hardly notice any stock resemblance in the software. Like in MIUI, App drawer is absent but users can download Launchers if they want to. One main features of FlyMe OS is to lock app which will require password to unlock them. FlyMe OS is different from stock OS and may take some time to get used to. Built in Security app is present which provides useful features like Virus Scan, Anti-Theft etc. A separate section for the finger print settings which allows the users to use both the pin lock as well as the fingerprints. The scanner does not lags at all instead provide very responsive feedback and unlocks the screen when user place the thumb over it.
Battery & Benchmarks
Meizu MX5 gets its power from Non-removable Li-Ion 3150 mAh battery. Features like GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi etc are present with sensors including Accelerometer, proximity and the Compass. Users did complained about they are getting low battery backup but it is most probably due to the the custom flyme os which is running on top of lollipop and will be fixed with incremental OTA software updates.AnTuTu benchmarks -47768
Quadrant benchmarks -25580
Vellamo (HTML 5) -2552
3D Mark Ice Storm -16928
